Will Moyes be our Alex Ferguson?
Stability in todays game is a far cry from when Alex Ferguson became Man Utd manager. Today success is driven by money as we all know, and rarely do we see progress from within the ranks and the academy.
When Fergie joined Man Utd it took around 3 seasons to really get them underway but look at the success that he brought to the club. Yes money was there but it was well spent and he stamped an authority and ethos into the club.

With the way West Ham look today, that lack of drive, poor injury records and a general lethargy and consistency is missing. This I feel is down to poor transfer judgement and mentality in the club, where the boss is Sullivan who clearly has failed over the G&S tenure.

There is something there though with Moyes, it hasn't really flourished and heavy losses have shown that he doesn't have what he needs for success. Some of this is a learning curve for him, but some of it is the resources at hand.

But, there is a mentality there that can work given the right support. The game against Southampton was a different class than what we have seen. Our season has been plagued by poor player attitude and lack of fitness, but with a good transfer window and backing maybe Moyes can bring success. Sadly I feel our ownership will get carried away by any potential success and ruin it, as they have done before.

If we survive this season, next season should be about Moyes and what he can develop. Bringing in the younger talent into our game has brought some interesting successes (Rice), something that was lacking under Allardyce and Bilic to a degree.

All in all, I like the Moyes managerial style, tactically and the consistency needed is not there yet, but maybe Moyes can do what Fergie did and gradually develop a winning formula to West Ham.
Let's see.

He's certainly got a tune out of Arnautovic. And that alone is worth about £60m.

I think he's OK and would keep him long term. We have a lot of dead wood to replace though, and I'm not sure this board will support him.

Re: Will Moyes be our Alex Ferguson?
Losing Moyes this summer will be the worst thing that can happen to West Ham at the moment..

He is a decent manager with a point to prove and while some slaughter him for the heavy defeats we have had this season he has come into a struggling club and managed to turn it around. you can already see the green shoots of recovery coming in.

It was Moyes who started playing Declan Rice regularly, Moyes who pushed Masuaku up to midfield, Moyes who moved Arnautovic to striker and Moyes who found some way for us to (occasionally) win games without Lanzini.

What this club needs more than anything at the moment is a period of stability. Bringing in a new manager with new ideas and new players just means that we have to start again and will run the very real risk of being in exactly the same position as we are now next season. Under Moyes I am convinced that we would be looking at the top half of the table and not at the bottom.

Some criticise his football as being boring but that IMO is totally unfair. Alladyce's football was boring and Moyes in no Allardyce. he is a good mamager who gets the best out of the player he has but he is not a miracle worker.

Give him a full pre-season and we will see a much differnet team next year. If he can stabilise us as the best of the rest like he did with Everton then that would be a massive step forward for this club and I would take it in a heart beat.

He's done well. he deserves to stay on. My only fear is that he will not want to...

Re: Will Moyes be our Alex Ferguson?
But I do agree, results may have been patchy and we go from looking like we are turning the corner to being absolutely dire, but give him enough time and he could be around for a while, how much success we can get under him is another matter, very consistent at Everton but finishing between 5th or 7th just below the top 4 as it was back then on a regular basis was about as good as it got.

Moyes will not even get close to achieving what Red nose did, if we can win a FA Cups or 2 perhaps! And qualify for the Champions league a few times in the next 25 years that will be as good as it gets.

Mind you, no guarantee he will be here next season……………..

Re: Will Moyes be our Alex Ferguson?
In a parallel universe, Sir Alex is our Sir Alex.

If he'd lost that cup match that they say saved his job, and then lost his job, considering how close he was to John Lyall, he could well have been brought in as a West Ham manager. He was more West Ham than Man U, being a East End of Glasgow docker/union rep.

Gutted that happened in another universe than the one I live in.

Hard to see, but I'd love Moyes to do with us what Fergie thought he could do for Man U, just to spite their fans, more than anything. Most Mancs I speak to hate him and want him to fail everywhere he goes, just to justify them hounding him out well before he'd had chance to make his own team up there.

Re: Will Moyes be our Alex Ferguson?
Personally I think he deserves a chance to bring in a few players he actually wants and have another crack at a full season.

It's clear we are way short on quality in several areas and it's not going to matter who is in charge if the ridiculous transfer strategy currently in use is going to continue.

Hugill? Evra? Ridiculous.

I wouldn't mind Moyes and his coaching team being around next season. If nothing else it will mean a proper pre-season for the first time in a few years.

Fully agree with that.

Apart from "He's done well". That is arguable. His points tally isn't great from games played. Yes, he's done the things you mentioned but with the squad he had I would have expected him to do what Puel has done at Leicester and cemented them in the top half.

But, in essence, you are totally correct and he does deserve a full summer window and pre-season to mould things more to his liking. He was treated abysmally in the Jan window by the owners and that has already come to head. Hopefully they have learned from that and the penny pinching stops.

If he stays this summer will be the litmus test for him and our board. If they both get their acts together and we get in some top players I'd love to see what Moyes can do with them.

This thread is a bit premature, lest wait until we are safe before planning for next season.

Sadly if the monsters that are GSB remain at the club then whoever is manager will have a tough time.
